- Trip Outline
Mt. Peeley is at an elevation of 7030 feet. The panoramic views during the drive are spectacular as you drive through the Mazatzal Mountains. The sunset coming down the mountain are simply breathtaking!
Near this area was the old “National Mine”. This is where they once mined a reddish-brown ore called cinnabar and processed it on site to make mercury. The mountains here are filled with Ponderosa Pine and Alligator Junipers trees. During the right time of year this trail will be filled with beautiful wildflowers. (“February showers bring March flowers.”)
During this scenic drive there are numerous vista points with 360 degrees views. With the valley to the west, Four Peaks and the Superstitions to the south, Mt. Ord and Deer Creek Canyon descending to the east, and the Mazatzal mountain range and various other peaks to the north.
