The Rolls at Saguaro Lake off-road route passes through the Sonoran Desert landscape and contains a section of the Great Western Trail. The highest elevation point along this route is 2560 feet. From the main Bush Highway entrance to this trail it is a 12.1 mile drive to reach the off-road access areas (coves) of Saguaro Lake. There are 4 coves to choose from to swim at.

The duration of this drive in takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to reach the lake. This location is a perfect spot for having a picnic lakeside and swimming.

There are two different entrances along this route that we can take. One is a mile in on Bush Highway marked by a cattle guard and the other is at the back of the Butcher Jones Recreation area. We exit through here during our excursion.

Itinerary for the Rolls OHV Excursion:

  • Meet and depart from Fountain Hills
  • Drive out towards Saguaro Lake on Bush Highway
  • Enter off-road 1 mile in on Bush Highway marked by a cattle guard.
  • Drive off-road for 12.1 miles to 1 of the 4 coves to choose from to swim at on Saguaro Lake.
  • Exit off-road at the back of the Butcher Jones Recreation area.
  • Drive back to Fountain Hills.
