Horseshoe Dam and Waterfall

The Horseshoe Dam is just 25 miles outside the beautiful town of Cave Creek. The dam is 1,500 feet long, 144 feet high. This dam is unique because there is a walking path which allows you to get behind the water flowing over the dam. You can get very close to the water below the dam which cascades down into a beautiful multi-tiered waterfall flowing over large rocks. The views are stunningly beautiful when there is a release of water happening. Just below Horseshoe Dam is some of Arizona’s best fishing.

Fossil Creek is one of two wild and scenic rivers in Arizona. Its 70 degree water and waterfall pours at 20,000 gallons per hour from springs at the bottom of a 1,600 foot deep canyon. Due to its beauty and year-round water, people are drawn to this area and the waterfalls. The lushness of the riparian area strikes a sharp contrast to the dry and sparse desert vegetation that surrounds it.

Grand Falls (Chocolate Falls)

The Grand Falls (Chocolate Falls) is one of the five highest waterfalls in Arizona. At 185 feet high it is taller than Niagara Falls (183 feet) though not nearly as wide. Grand Falls is part of the Little Colorado River. The Grand Falls are known for the beautiful rainbows created by the impact and spray of the falls. These muddy falls are a spectacular sight to be seen. Known in the Southwest for its many tiers of water and strong flow, the Grand Falls are an incredible phenomena. These falls were created by volcanic runoff from Merriam Crater and created a lava dam. Located 30 miles East of Flagstaff, this waterfall wonder sits on Navajo Nation land in the Painted Desert.
